About the project

Letterage is a browser-based word puzzle game that challenges players to construct the longest possible words using a limited selection of letters. The game introduces a new challenge each day, encouraging players to return regularly and improve their word-building strategies.

The project combines straightforward gameplay mechanics with an accessible web interface, making the experience easy to understand while offering opportunities for strategic thinking.

Frontend Development

The frontend was developed using React, providing a component-based architecture for managing the game's interface and interactive elements.

My contributions focused on frontend development, including implementing user interface components, managing interactive states, and connecting the presentation layer with the application's gameplay functionality.

React's component model supported the separation of interface responsibilities, allowing individual elements to be developed and maintained independently.

User Experience and Interaction

The interface was designed to make the daily puzzle accessible without unnecessary complexity. Players interact with the available letters to construct words, with the interface responding to their selections and gameplay actions.

Development involved managing the relationship between application state and visual feedback, allowing the interface to reflect changes as players interact with the puzzle.

Testing and Reliability

Automated testing was implemented using Vitest to validate frontend functionality and reduce the likelihood of regressions during development.

The test suite achieved approximately 78% branch coverage, covering a substantial portion of the application's conditional logic.

This testing approach helped establish a more reliable development workflow by allowing changes to be validated against existing functionality.

Analytics Integration

Google Analytics was incorporated into the application to provide insight into website traffic and user engagement.

Analytics data helps explain how visitors interact with the application and provides a foundation for evaluating engagement with the daily puzzle experience.

Development Experience

Letterage provided an opportunity to apply component-based frontend development, automated testing, and analytics integration within an interactive web application.

The project reinforced the importance of maintaining clear separation between interface components and application logic, particularly when developing interactive experiences that require frequent state updates.
